The Barossa valley, settled in the 19th century by Lutheran German immigrants fleeing religious persecutions, is the land of vineyards and produces a third of Australian wine.

The Fleurieu peninsula (South of Adelaide) is a sea resort. Opposite is Kangaroo Island with its famous sealions.

Coober Pedy in the center of the state is the biggest opal mining area in Australia and is half way on the road to Red Center.
