Western
Australia : with its 2 525 500 km² it is the biggest
state in Australia. Two thirds of its population live in its
capital city Perth (1221300 inhabitants).
North of Perth is the Nambung
National Park with its 40000-year-old Pinnacles: limestone
pillars rising from the landscape.
Most of the state is arid, hostile land (Gibson and Victoria deserts) and at
Hyden is the famous "waverock", 15m-high fossilicized sand dunes.
In the middle of nowhere, within the "Golden Mile" are Kalgoorlie and Boulder where over
1800 tons of gold have been extracted.
In the northeast is Kimberley, a mountainous range and fascinating Territory Wildlife Park, famous for its
deep canyons (Geikie Gorge) and its magnificent sunsets over the coast near Broome.
Western Australia's floral emblem is the Kangaroo Paw |
