Darwin, Northern Territory capital
city, 75900 inhabitants, is an adventure more than a town. Founded in 1869 to settle the
vast, empty Noth Australian desert, it's mainly a large airforce base around the biggest
airfield in the country.
A tropical climate alternating suffocating heats in the
dry season with torrential Monsoon rains. The"Australian Singapour" was completly destroyed
by Tracy 1974.
Though casual in appearance Darwin is a bustling city
with its boisterous, sticky nights lit by tropical thunderstorms and noisy with the
buzzing of giant insects.
250 km in the East is the Kakadu National Park renowned for its spectacular
Aboriginal Art. |
